The Just Kids Autism Program (JKAP) is a center-based program for preschool age children with autism and their families. The JKAP curriculum has been designed to address the core deficits for children with autism as identified by the most recent research. Since Just Kids is committed to keeping in sync with scientific research in the field of autism, the program curriculum is adjusted to reflect new knowledge, understanding and intervention.
The JKAP classroom ratio consists of 12 children, 1 special education teacher, 1 general education teacher, and 2 teacher aides. Each child’s day is spent in both 1:1 and small group learning environments with opportunities for integration. Intensive teaching is used during 1:1 time to target each learner’s specific objectives. Progress is tracked and recorded on a daily basis, which is used to evaluate the success of teaching strategies and the child’s pace of learning.
The Just Kids Autism Program offers a model of intervention for children with autism and their families that are designed to address the core deficits of autism as they impact learning and development. The JKAP curriculum is based on the developmental process that leads to competence in functioning in dynamic (ever-changing) systems necessary for all adaptive functioning, learning, and the development of friendships and relationships. JKAP provides an objective based program that systematically brings children along the developmental path towards an improved quality of life for the child and family.
