The medically fragile classroom at Just Kids provides a preschool aged special needs child with educational programming based on individual needs with modifications being made due to his or her medical needs. These medical needs must be addressed before they can benefit from educational experiences.
In order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the medically fragile student, the classroom provides specialized health support during the school day. Due to their diagnoses as for example: seizure disorders, congenital disorders, significant developmental delays or special breathing problems, they are dependent on specialized equipment which has been set up by the child’s physical therapist such as a gait trainer, stander, and adaptive seating. All the students require assistance with activities of daily living such as feeding, toileting and dressing. Nursing intervention is done on an ongoing basis for tube feedings when prescribed by the physician and to assess each child’s medical status.
