Just Kids Physical and Occupational Therapy Department offers services to infants, toddlers, and older children who may be at risk for or exhibit physical handicaps or movement problems that may adversely influence their motor development and affect their ability to learn, play, or achieve personal independence.
Child may be referred to physical therapy and/or occupational therapy and receive individual evaluations to assess muscle strength, joint motion, fine and gross developmental skills, balance and coordination skills, quality and ease of movement in various positions, sensory-motor, perceptual motor dysfunction or self-help skills. Recommendations for treatment services are based upon the findings of this evaluation and may be initiated upon a written referral from a physician and approval of Early Intervention or CPSE (Committee for Preschool Special Education. Treatment goals are achieved through special positioning, carrying and handling techniques and specific exercises and activities.
We offer a monthly Pediatric Rehab Clinic to assess and make recommendations regarding orthotic and adaptive equipment needs. Our therapists are skilled in assessing, ordering and modifying adaptive equipment individualized for each child.
The OT/PT department is a clinical site provider for students attending programs at many universities, such as Quinipiac and Hunter College, SUNY Stony Brook, Quinipiac University. This provides an excellent learning mechanism to keep our clinical skills and knowledge base current. In addition, our staff participates in continuing education courses, workshops to maintain and enhance professional growth.
